Took a long time to reach the top of the peak due to taking extreme caution not to fall on the very steep slippery slope, having an energy crisis on the way up due to high altitude, and taking too many photos of the same views. There is a perfectly located large flat boulder on the peak for taking a lunch break. It even had shade from a small pine tree. Found the peak register bottle hidden in a tiny crevice between two boulders within arms reach of the flat boulder. It had been placed there in 2005 and only had about 6 people signed in. The last one was in 2013. I didn't see anyone signed in as being in HAZ. Also didn't recognize the names but didn't spend much time scrutinizing it although I did sign in. I'm wondering if there is an older register stashed up there somewhere. The flat area on top of the peak offers the potential for some interesting exploring but I didn't find much except a large cairn on the south side. Made a loop hike out of the excursion by going down the south side after coming up the north side. Connected up with FR552B and walked it back to the meadow. It was getting a little warm for hiking so spent the afternoon in the shade at camp reading a book and watching what seemed to be an endless stream of cars passing through the campground. Most didn't stay long, just drove around the loop and left. |
