| no partners | | Beautiful day after a good rain, what better way to stretch the legs than hike in the Preserve!
I always wanted to climb the neighboring Northern peak of Squaw; (Squaw Peak's Sister or Piestawa's Pal?) today was the perfect day. I parked in the neighborhood and connected onto Perl Charles and then Freedom until I got to the wash and made it up a high saddle. Pretty steep but the soft, wet ground made everything so much easier. Then you climb the spine of the ridge (lots of crags) until you get to the sub-peak. Finally, made my way around a Palo Verde and up a nice slot to the summit! Nothing too scary but a couple of class 3-4 climbs with solid holds. I found an interesting ring of rocks at the top; no idea who put them there or why. Beautiful day and beautiful views abound! I could see from a distance the 50 or so people on Piestawa's summit and laughed! I did run into one other soul doing the whole ridgeline from where I was to the Squaw's Summit from the North Side.
I finished off my trip with a stop at the stone house near the neighborhood. Never been there before! Very interesting day!
