| no partners | | Needed to get outdoors but didn't have a plan so it was just drive until something comes to mind, which thankfully was only a short distance out Bush Highway. I parked at the first pullout north of the Granite Reef Rec site and headed uphill, with no idea how far or where I was headed.
I took the Mineshaft Trail for a bit, off-trail to visit a number of nondescript high-points, back on the trail, off-trail again, visited the mine, followed Twisted Sister for a short distance before going off-trail for more high-points. By now I figured I better decide on a specific destination or who knows how long I'd be wandering aimlessly.
Looking up I picked out a peak that looked interesting and set off for its summit. I hadn't gone a hundred feet before I found what appeared to be a game trail heading in exactly the direction I hoped to take. And the farther I went the more it appeared to be more than a game trail, especially when I cairns began leading the way. I'm sure it was never a bike trail but it did appear to have been built as a hiking trail possibly many decades ago. Whatever it was, it took me all the way up to the peak I chose to reach. Sweet!
The part that wasn't so 'sweet' was that I started early afternoon when it was still a bit humid so I was thoroughly soaked in sweat well before reaching the summit.
Although an unnumbered peak, the highest elevation I reached was 2316, so that's what I chose to name it. (I goofed on my panorama video, because I used the GPS elevation before stepping onto the highest boulder.) |
