| no partners | | I wanted to rack up some mileage today but because I was expecting an important call (to schedule another back surgery) reliable cell service was a requirement. That in mind, I figured a meander along the Salt river would fit the bill nicely... which it did quite well.
Setting out from a little way into Bulldog from the Blue Point gate and having covered much of the area a short time ago, I really didn't expect anything more than a few hours of hiking without seeing anything new or exciting. Almost immediately I happened upon some ATV & dirt-bike tracks (where they didn't belong) and decided to see where and how far they went.
So for the next 1.1 miles I followed the tracks until the point where the ATV had given up and turned around. But the dirt-bike tracks kept going for another 1.5 miles... to a point not far from being opposite the Water Users Recreation Site. In other words, WAY past the nearest legal route in the Bulldog OHV Rec Area.
Ok, enough about the folks who care nothing for protecting our public areas... because I was drawn farther along the river than I expected, I was able to film quite a bit of the wild horses feeding in the Salt River. There were a few colts barely tall enough to keep their heads above water. And because the water was deep enough the bellies of the mares were underwater, the colts had to wait while their mothers finished feeding before they could nurse.
After filming, I continued wandering eastward, making what would amount to a lasso-loop. While it got a bit warm, the humidity was low enough it was a pleasant almost four hours.

P.S. The call came after I got home... I have surgical consult on October 9 and hopefully if the surgical schedule hasn't gotten bogged down I'll have surgery to remove a synovial cyst by early November... about a year since I was incapacitated for 5 months. |
