The canyon is outstanding and several rock climbing routes have been created along the east-side cliff. Getting there means taking Camino la Tierra from the Santa Fe bypass NW of Santa Fe, then County Road #77 and Old Buckman Road to the upper trailhead. Road is in good shape and ok for low clearance vehicles. Parking area is large. Great moderate hike, but summer is probably too hot for it. Once you get out of the canyon, there is no shade. This hike was part of our hiking club outing to Santa Fe in early October. Note the track is one way, so the RT is 6+ miles. I forgot to start a track, so I reversed the in-bound track to show the first half, which descends to the river. |
