This and another short hike were subsitutes for being unable to reach Lava Point (which was snowed in dudring our visit) to do the West Rim. Just as it was getting interesting, in terms of some mild rock scrambling, most of the group opted to turn around. This was another hike included in our hiking club outing to St. George, Utah in April. There are some interesting chipped out foot holds and mild exposure points protected by ropes (use these at your risk), which make this a nice spot for novice rock scramblers to test their skills and have fun. There is parking at the trailhead, which is at the north end of the Red Reef CG. There is a day use fee, which is covered by the federal lands Senior pass. Very impressive canyon with a small stream, but could be busy on weekends causing bottlenecks at the scrambling spots. We had it to ourselves in April. Easy access off I-15. |
