I wanted a nice walk in the desert, nothing really demanding unless I decided. Off I-8 early to drive back and start walking. As I rose in the wide valley on the closed road with vehicle tracks on it, I decided if I was crossing the low pass ahead where would I station lookouts to avoid ambush, or perhaps locate game. East or West? I chose a ridge outcrop of large rocks to the west. Up I went, the footing pretty good. Is it spring? Brittlebush, outrageous bloom along the interstate, and nice in the stark rocks. Speaking of rocks, quartz about and a lot of the rocks sparkled with mica. Other flowers too, and like a million ant hills.

Near the summit spied a prime lay up spot, and sure enough a sun destroyed pack and some trash from the north bounders. Nothing recent. I made the summit, another old pack, no more trash. Maybe the old ones had used this area, the newer people were. Gorgeous views from my ridgeline. I chose badly off the ridge, a few sporty moves to get to the wash way below.

Over another small pass. I slowed down here, some arranged rocks ( recent) but there was something else too. Passes are good areas to look around. I spotted some crude shards, and some rock which had pet wood potential.
Some cleared off areas, a small pad of concrete.

Picked up the road again, had spotted an unusual area on my ridgeline traverse so jumped into the wash and followed it while the road picked up and away. Big smooth wash, not viewed from the road. Soon I glimpsed the area of "The Thing" I had dubbed it. Huge runaway morning glory type vines. Covering everything in a small area. Like walking in a sickly sweet smelling maze. Almost afraid the thing would grow on me if I stayed too still. Bizarre in this desert, looked like a Georgia Kudzu area.

Back to the Jeep. Cloudy and nice, sullen light photographically but this area was very inspiring to me today. Nothing boring about this desert.
