| no partners | | Back to an old extensive historic mining area. Had the bonus of speaking to some locals', score one for me as one mining area I mentioned they were " what, never heard of it". But it may be known by another name or just the locale. Anyway no active claims and I should be able to collect rocks if I wanted is what I was told.
So a lot of driving on Sat, a little wandering around the big mining area relic buildings, some underground, most flooded out. Nice rocks. Campsite with views. Next day drive to the mine reclaimed area where I intended to do some rock collecting. Some wildflowers blooming and thousands of Sego lilies!!! Even some poppies, and although getting pretty weedy looking, color bands of blue and orange. I collected probably 100 lbs of rocks loaded into the Toyota. Carried a backpack to haul the rocks. Saw a hill I really need to climb, looks like stupendous views, but not this trip. Checked out some other areas off the road. I will come back with some spare gas as looks like a lot of backcountry driving and hiking without much civilization nearby, or the small towns with no gas station kind of thing. My cup of tea. |
