| no partners | | This hike started on what I and some geocachers call, the Old BCT. I followed the trail, or what's left of it for close to a mile before I veered east and climbed up a ridge that I followed sort of south to find a couple of geocaches and then dropped back down to the trail and back to my truck.
The trail starts by crossing Soap Creek, several miles up stream from where the current BCT crosses Soap Creek, then heads north. I've followed it maybe a mile farther back in October 2012. Since then, the trail is very overgrown and fading away, especially with all the growth this year. I had a lot of trouble following it. Basically I went sign to sign with some bread crumbs I had in my GPSr. Yes, there are Black Canyon Trail signs still along the way. I have no idea when the BCT alignment was out here, nor when the BCT was rerouted to its current alignment. I've seen old BCT signs in other places too, though I'm not sure I could find them now. |
