| no partners | | Today's adventure was to find two of the first geocaches ever hidden, GC12 & GC17. We first walked up Wildcat Mountain, starting at the Douglas Trailhead. Though not needed to reach GC17, we did summit Wildcat where there was a view through the trees to Mt. Hood. The views from the summit weren't as open as I had hoped as there were a lot of trees. After summitting, we dropped back down and took a trail along the ridge to GC17. Along the ridge the views towards Mt. Hood were exceptional. We had a perfect day for this walk, temperatures were in the 70s with blue skies and good visibility. The trail was in great condition with good tread and a reasonable grade.
The second hike of the day started a short distance below the Douglas Trailhead and followed an old paved road that is blocked off and overgrown. Normally, the walking was easy but there was plenty of ducking branches growing across the road. We passed a family out gathering Chanterelle mushrooms. |
