| no partners | | First Summit of Humphrey's so I got an early start in an attempt to have the peak to myself. Made good time until the trail crosses paths with a sign marking 11,400 feet elevation. After this, the trail and whole western slope were covered in deep snow pack, and there were footprints leading in all directions. I followed some more or less straight up toward the saddle and eventually reconnected with the trail. After the saddle there was no more snow on the trail all the way up to the peak.
Forest fires and air pollution hazed up the view from the top. Especially to the south.
On the way back, the trail was equally difficult to follow, and the ice and snow made sliding rather than hiking down the mountain the more enjoyable method of travel.
I passed around two dozen hikers on the way up/down, and they were some of the most considerate I have every crossed paths with. |
