| no partners | | It seems like everybody else is hiking to the Humphrey's summit over the last few days, so I figured that I would throw my hat in the ring. Actually, I had been wanting to hike Humphrey's over the last couple of months, but between fire closures and an active monsoon season in Flagstaff, I did not have a chance until now.
There were very few people on the trail yesterday, so it was nice not to have crowds like you'd normally see on the weekend. Of course there was the obligatory pajama person listening to loud music, but I managed to persuade them to turn it off.
On the summit, you could see smoke from a couple of fires. In looking at a map, I believe that these are the Bald Wildfire and the Seep Fire, both of which were caused by lightning. On the drive up I-17 to Flagstaff, there was one stretch of the highway where the smoke was really heavy and thick.
The hike up was nice, but I did not enjoy the descent on this very rocky trail. To me, it's much more enjoyable to go up Humphrey's from the Inner Basin. If I was to go up Humphrey's from Snow Bowl again, I'd be tempted to do the Big Loop by coming back on the Weatherford and Kachina trails. |
