This is a good trip to overpack and indulge in good food because coming in is downhill the entire time, and coming back you've already consumed everything heavy! Needless to say, we enjoyed steaks, burgers, hot dogs and polish sausage during our stay We did a bit of swimming, which was ridiculously cold, but necessary. The hike out is a little rough with overnight packs, but as soon as you start to get really annoyed, you see the register and it's overwith.
Forest roads 81E and 693 are pretty rough. My 2wd Tacoma with about 8 inches of clearance made it though There's one spot coming out that's a bit steep and really rocky where my tires spun for a couple seconds, but otherwise, it was just a matter of going slowly and some fancy steering to avoid the big rocks. My friends Tacoma, which has about 2 inches more clearance than mine, got through with no issues at all.
Awesome trip! Next time I'm checking out Willow valley to the Maxwell trail. |
