I am storm and I was chasing...a train that is. :lol: Union Pacific restored steam locomotive Big Boy 4014 is on a commemorative tour this year and I certainly wanted to see it! It spent two nights in Tucson, with Friday being the day it was officially on display in the railyard. I drove over to have a look at it, but encountered the usual Tucson traffic jam situation for things such as this (not unexpected due to the publicity). So, I decided I didn't want to hassle with the crowds, and went home. The idea was to follow it eastward after it left Tucson in the morning. Great excuse for a little road tripping and to see it in a less hectic setting. :D

The train was about 30 minutes late departing Tucson, so I adjusted my depart time as well. The first hint as to the size of turnouts to be expected to see this train was at Marsh Station Road. Cars were parked all over, including on top of the overpass. Lots of people were set up and waiting along the route there. I didn't plan on stopping at Benson because of its proximity to Tucson and Sierra Vista, but decided to drive through town to check the turnout. WOW, it was a madhouse there! :o Took me awhile to get through town, but I did of course, and decided I would exit the interstate at Texas Canyon and head down to Dragoon. People were gathering there, but it wasn't crazy busy like Benson. It would have been a good place to see the train, but I decided to head over to Cochise instead. This is even more off the beaten path and it turned out to be perfect for my first time seeing Big Boy. :)

Next, it was off to Bowie, where the train had a scheduled 30 minute stop (I decided to skip the Willcox stop). Since that is along the interstate, I figured there would be a good turnout (there was), but it was a good choice to spend some time around the train and get some still photos.
