If we were lucky might even get to see a double whammy, trains going in both directions at the same time, truly a spiritual experience as some might say. Spirituality probably not but it sure is an exciting experience. Hiked about a mile north along the Arizona then returned and explored a little along the creek. Cieniga had a light flow. The cottonwoods had dropped their leaves with the exception of a few clingons (not the Star Trek type). No trains though which I thought was odd for the 1.5 hours we were in the area. We had headed up Cieniga creek about 5 minutes from the bridges when it happened, two trains entered the canyon one from each direction. Damn, kind of like the phone that never rings until you leave the room. We did scramble up out of the creek and caught a close up of the East bound then ran along the track to catch the West bound as it was just finishing upon the bridge.
The Arizona trail along here is in excellent condition, this isn't a trail it's a highway. There is even a cross walk complete with a button to push when you cross over the frontage road, new since I was on the trail. With all the horse riders on this trail I guess they thought it would be a good idea. I believe this is the only one along the Arizona Trail (not counting the portion that goes through Flagstaff). |
