| no partners | | | I was able to get to Caprock State Park to do a little hiking in between storms. I hiked along a 7 mile stretch of the Fort Worth and Denver Rail line Called the Quitaque Trail. This train line was operated between 1928 and 1989. This section is the western most trail of the 64 mile trail is called the Quitaque Trail. I did the eastern 7 miles of the 17 mile Quitaque trail. The Quitaque Trail is probably the most interesting section of the 64 mile trail as it climbs up the Llano uplift. Along this section are about a dozen bridges and a quarter mile tunnel called the Clarity Tunnel. The rest of the 64 mile trail is along flat farm lands ending at the Red river, Probably not very interesting walking. Very nice 14 mile round trip hike but only 300 feet of elevation gain (add 100 feet if you go down into the gullies below the bridges). The 3+ MPH pace can wear you out though. Probably a good trail for mountain bikers, probably a one day trip. |
