| partners | | I-10 was closed due to an accident. I almost bailed. Opted for the inconvenient bypass because I was really looking forward to this one.
Wrightson is tough to gauge. There are no weather stations and it's in a radar shadow so there's very little data available. Nonetheless, I figured it would be a nice day regardless of what I encountered.
Surprisingly, there was snow as low as the parking lot. But it didn't really progress as expected on the way up. Maybe a couple of inches at the saddle. Eventually it got a little deeper, and though I could have skipped them, I had snowshoes with me, so I used them starting at around 8,000 feet. Each step was definitely less work now.
Beautiful sun, amazing clouds, a very light breeze, and overall great snow conditions. Probably my best winter visit here. Days like this are tough to beat. Just over 4hrs up, about 2.5 down.
Thanks to Mark for joining and letting me talk at him all day. I'm not much for crowded hikes, but occasionally it's nice to see another person or two. And two might be the limit on this one after a nice snowfall. |
