| partners | | Can't beat this one when the weather works out. 6" new at the TH, didn't put on snowshoes until near the rim, maybe 7200 feet. It kept snowing all day long. 18 inches of new fluffy powder on top of 6 inches of wetter base from earlier in the storm. Lost the trail a few times. You'd think I'd never been here before. Tons of water in the drainages. Had to skip the trail to stay east of the drainage to get to the lake which is a few percent more than full. It's spring so there was open water in the deeps. Near the head of the lake it was a green slush from the overnight storm. After a nice break, headed back. Surprised that the sun had not come out and there was snow all the way to the bottom. And still a lingering snow shower when we finished. Would have liked if the storm cleared out a bit earlier, but can't ever complain about a winter storm on the Babe. |
