| no partners | | | My wife has sporadically been looking for houses in Monument which butts up to Mt. Herman and hiking as well. Micah’s lacrosse and horseback riding is on this side of town and not real convenient. Anyway, I knew there was a forest rd. 320 aka Mt. Herman Rd. That went through. Since it is by Rampart Range rd. which is closed in the winter I went to check it out with Noah expecting it to be closed. It wasn’t... closed, plowed, or maintained. It is a 13+ mile mostly 1 lane road with hundreds of switchbacks to deal with the elevation gain and drop to get from Woodland Park to Monument. It also connects to numerous even more remote forest roads. Shortcut as the crow flies, but not a viable alternative to get my kids to their activities. I’m glad we explored it as there are numerous trailheads and dispersed camping for summer. I didn’t see a single vehicle during the entire trip and the tire tracks ended at a turnaround at the high point so there were no tracks and up to a foot of snow on the road in places on the monument side. I did not get stuck, but drove the entire rd in 6 wheel drive low locked. Looking forward to camping and hiking the area which has never really been on my radar during the time I’ve lived here. |
