Did a dig for 5 weeks, and alas, if you didn't see it already, it's too late, as the team's last day was July 14, and then they covered the ruins all back over with sand to protect them ... They did find some interesting stuff out there.
One of the archaeologists on the team told me that they selected the location by (1) looking for saltbushes and scattered pottery on top of the ground (saltbush plants can only grow where there is deep sand, which would have been deposited over time after being dug up...they can't penetrate the harder dirt that's originally been there) ... and then (2) by sticking electric probes into the ground and running electricity between them (when the probes conduct better, it's because of a mineral in the original packed earth there; electricity won't go through the sand as well).
Hope to go back again later, and do all of the trails there...
