| no partners | | I decided to explore a couple of side canyons I noticed on another hike recently, and went 1 for 2. The first was a really impressive slot with geology unlike any I had encountered in Arizona previously. I actually felt that a helmet might have been a good idea given the crumbly nature of the rock and the activity of bighorn sheep on the hills above it. I was hoping to find some water, but there was only one little keeper that I was able to maneuver my way around to continue up canyon. Eventually I hit a dead end, with a 30 foot choke stone blocking the way.
Next I tried another nearby but this one was very overgrown and after scrambling up a couple of dryfalls I got stopped by one I couldn't get past. Still half a mile short of where I had hoped to go, I might have to try this one from above. It looked like there would be some very nice narrows with water.
Oh well. The best places take trial and error to find. They'll still be there for next time. |
