| partners | | After a longer hike earlier in the day and a nap back at camp, we decided to make a run up Woody Mountain.
The combination of the two county trails are fine, but really built for mountain biking. The road hike to the summit is as nice as any fire tower road I've ever seen.
The tower was open, and the cab was still in good shape, though it is apparent that this lookout has been replaced by video surveillance. There's a benchmark under the tower, and another one only a quarter mile away. I opted for the direct route down, skipping most of the unnecessary switchbacks. There was a bit of snow on the north-facing slopes and I saw a deer on the way down before watching the sun set over Rogers. |
