| no partners | | While visiting at my sister's house, I decided to get in a quick hike along the Montour Trail. this trail is 63 miles long and is part of the Allegheny Trail Alliance, and connects to some other trails. It's essentially an urban trail, follows abandoned rights-of-way for defunct railroad lines, but it's still goes thru some very secluded looking areas. There are 25 trailheads spaced only a few miles apart, so it's easy to do the entire trail if you wanted without having to do a big segment. MontourTrail.org
I started just after a heavy morning rain ended and arrived to a nearly empty parking lot. I opted for just a quick 5 mile hike, 2.5 miles out and back. When I got back, some drizzling had begun and the parking lot was nearly full. Lots of other hikers, runners, and bikers out. Pretty much an even mix of all three. The trail also follows Montour Run, so there were frequent views of that stream and the sound of running water. Locals roads are visible and audible from time to time, but it's actually pretty minimal, considering how close they are.
The trailhead I was at was also very close to another trailhead for the Montour Conversancy, which seems to have a small trail system very close by. Lots to explore if you wanted to. |
