| no partners | | I've been making regular trips to First Water Road to see if I can get in to see what damage the fire has done, but the road is still blocked. So I parked along the Apache Trail and went for a walk.
I headed for the trail that goes from a small parking area along the FW Road up to the Fins. This trail runs north & South and was a boundary that the firefighters used to draw their line in the desert. One side of the trail is just like it always has been, the other side, towards the Massacre Grounds, is toast.
The fire must have been very hot around there because the Saguaro are burnt all the way to the tops. All brush and grass is gone although some sticks still exist without leaves. I still want to get further back into the Massacre Grounds to check that area out. I still can't imagine how that fire made the leap from the Massacre Grounds all the way to Black Mesa and Garden Valley, unless it had some help. |
