Made it to the lower ruins and enjoyed the views and took a break. Next up was the upper dwellings and oh boy were they a challenge to get to. The only way up was up some Moki steps with a sheer drop off to the right. It was very sketchy and James had to help me up. We finally arrived at the upper dwellings and although they were not very intact, there was a very nice view! We wandered around trying to spot additional dwellings (and I was very hopeful to find an alternate route back down.) The only other option we saw to get down was going to involve heavy bushwhacking so it was back down the Moki steps. WOW, they were even more terrifying on the way back down, as you need to go backwards, and one missed step could result in a very bad fall. Not for people with fear of heights. We were camping anyway, so hunting for additional dwellings would be saved for the next day! |
