Ventured back out in Sedona in search of some additional dwellings. First off, you cannot go on dry creek road without 4x4, so we tacked on some additional miles with a connector trail. We were only following some vague info and didn’t have a route, so it was a fun challenge. We headed off trail in a promising social trail that had some random cairns. There was a sheer cliff face to our left, so we climbed up there and kept scrambling until we reached the top. Although there were spectacular views up there and some outstanding geology, we realized we were way too high for dwellings. We used our position to our advantage to scope out the cliff walls for the additional dwellings. We were able to rule out a large chunk off the canyon and then trusted our instincts to lead us to the dwellings. Our first guess was off and was again too high, so we dropped down a level and finally spotted a promising area. We needed to drop down again (thankfully we found mild to medium danger down-climbs). We traveled along the canyon walls lined with lush beautiful ferns and then came across a giant rock pile. Initially we thought maybe our ruins had collapsed but we decided to go further and investigate. This was the best decision of the day, as we found the dwellings! They were some of the nicest dwellings I’ve seen in Sedona and had a cist, several colors of petroglyphs and two separate dwellings. There were cobwebs, which made me happy, since it shows that any visitors have respected the dwellings. There was no graffiti and no signs of frequent visitation, so I won’t be posting my route. If you decide to go try and find them, it’ll be a fun adventure. The dwellings were actually in an adjacent canyon to the triplog we were following. We went back the way we came, and had a few rain showers on the way out! Sedona adventures are always a good time!
