We had driven Hart Prairie in the morning, went to Flag and had lunch and then tried to find one of the hikes I had in mind. We started checking out a couple of the trailhead areas for some of the other Flagstaff Urban hikes described here on HikeArizona but ended up at Buffalo Park as we needed to be in a place where a couple of the older seniors could set up some chairs and hang out while we did our hike. There was a "adopt an animal" event going on at the Park too.

Our intentions here were to hike the McMillan Mesa Trail but circumstances were such that we didn't get to do that; probably a good thing as we didn't get to Buffalo Park until 2:30 and a storm starting brewing almost from the moment we got there.

One of the seniors with us just started straight down the middle trail of Buffalo Park not realizing that is not where we intended to go. Anyway, we decided to follow her as she just kept walking and had managed to get ahead of us while I was wrestling with the battery in my camera. It wasn't too far down the way when the rain started to come along with some wind so we ended up turning around after only 15 minutes of walking. :(

However, it was a great day for picture taking and the sunflowers were many! It really is a beautiful area with the wide open plateau-like area that you can traverse around in different directions. We were glad to find it and look forward to coming back and enjoying several of the different hikes from that area... altho I guess they really aren't as much hikes as they are walks since the trail is so level from what I could see.

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.
