We started at 7:30PM and hiked straight west until we got to the PA Seitts Preserve sign at Go John Canyon where you are forced to turn north.
There are several trails out here for multi-use. We headed north for a little while past a residential area until we got to the dry Cave Creek where we saw a couple (well barely saw as it was almost dark by this time) deer going across the bed. There were lots of toads hopping around too. It was amazing how cool it was in the creek area and many of the washes we went in and out of.
We then continued west and hooked up with the Slate Trail of the Cave Creek Regional Park system. We did get to see the tail end of a rattler. It was about another 1.5 miles to the Jaspar Trailhead where the hosts served chocolate capuccino cookies.
Because the moon failed to show, we used our flashlights for the hike back. It took a bit of adjustment because if you turned to talk to someone, you could be "Blinded by the Light" ... which then became the trivia question for the rest of the hike.... who sang that song? but someone had their Blackberry along and at the end of the hike, he had the answer... Manfred Mann. But guess who first wrote it and sang it? You would be surprised.
Anyway, the temperature was actually quite nice for most of the hike. |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
