| no partners | | It is really hard to find people to do these serious hikes with, so solo it is.. Started at Carney just before sunrise. Very bright moon lighting the way. The sun just barely beat me up to the saddle. The trail up top is pretty easy to follow. Bad news is someone, or people, put up cairns, and Im not exaggerating, every 15 ft and they were all over the place really confusing things. Good news is I still have good aim. I actually left a few good ones up, but I lost count after 25 strikes and or karate kicks. After crossing dry West Boulder, the burn area starts and takes up most of the rest of the hike. Ironically, the trail was a lot harder to follow in the barren burn area. Basically it was everything that is blackend and anything that is not. Anything that not is the trail. Passed a couple who was coming down just below the final push up to the actual ridgeline before 5057. Them and one other guy near the pine tree camp, were the only people I saw all day on the ridge. Made it to 5057 in 2.5 hours. The actual ridgeline section is so fun, I feel like a kid up there. Up and over here, climb down there, walking right along the ridge with great views everywhere, and then up and close with the hoodoos. Trail up there is straightforward and easy to follow. Made it to the pine tree camp in only 5 hours and ate some lunch. Only a couple spots where I felt I needed minute to rest, other than that I felt strong all day. Coming down Siphon was the worst part because at that point my quads were toast. Perfect weather right now for a killer hike like this. Cut 2 hours off my last time up here, thats nice. |
