Route Scout GPS Route Recorded on Route Scout View
Thought I was the only one crazy enough to hit up Flatiron on a day when the high is supposed to be 116, and following a record 118 day. Nope.

A surprising number of folks on the trail.

The saving grace of this hike is its western facing and narrow canyon approach, meaning there is shade for all who get an early start.

I was on the trail by 5:45.

Just up from the bowl area and the first killer climb, I looked back and saw about 10 bighorn sheep bounding down the south side of the canyon, with a couple standing as sentinels on the top of the rocks.

At the top of the climb, there was a pleasant breeze. I decided to bypass the actual Flatiron in favor of exploring a bit of the area down the ridgeline. Headed off trail just past the three pines camp spot and up to the hoodoos on 4648 above Monument Canyon. Great views of the canyon and to 5057 and Weavers, though it was a bit hazy. Also great for solitude.

Headed back and it was already 101 degrees when I arrived at my car.

Stay safe out there!
