| no partners | | Got on the trail about 6:45am. It was very windy and chilly when I got out of the car. Used my headlamp for the first 15 minutes or so, but didn't really need it. Most of this all the way up to where it meets FR59 again is in and out drainages. Grade is fairly level, but downhill gradually as you head north. I didn't notice this grade trend until I was on my way back. From FR59, I kept going north another 1.5 miles approximately, to where it crossed another minor dirt road.
On the descent to FR59 in the last segment and for all of next segment that I hiked, the trail was much smoother and less rocky than most of what I've so far. Helped me to make better than normal time along this segment and get a few more miles in on the next segment. Very enjoyable, and nice scenery. The trail also gets away from the main road and all the 4x4 and ATV traffic, making it more peaceful.
Saw one group of hikers, and few trail runners and bikers along the way, not too much traffic. Very quiet in the morning, but on the way back, lots of traffic on the roads below. Some snow was visibile at the higher elevations. Looks very inviting to take a ride up in there eventually to do some more exploration in the Prescott area and get amongst the pines and forest. |
