When I last visited Rogers Trough more than four years ago, I hadn't realized that the arch was along the way, or that it was was visible from FR 172. As close as it is, this barely qualifies as a hike, but it was an enjoyable stop along on way and a nice way to warm up on a cool morning. We arrived just as the sun was coming up, and I ran up to the arch quickly for some pictures and had the spot to myself. We'd heard that the arch can get busy, and with limited pullout spots along the road, we figured it would be best not to wait until the drive out at the end of the day. The scenery along FR 172 is fantastic--lots of interesting geology in that area of the Superstitions. Since the Rogers Trough hike was the main event for the day, I didn't spend any time exploring near the arch, but it looks like an area that would have a lot of caves and interesting features. |
