We left home at 5:50am and drove to the trailhead; about a two-hour drive. We began our round trip hike to Vista Point Overlook at 8:07am and finished a little after 2pm. Our hiking time includes many stops for pictures and a 25-minute lunch break near Vista Point Overlook.
Our lunch consisted of our usual trail fare; soy nuts, banana chips, and beef jerky - all washed down with water. Additionally, we had two snack breaks of about five minutes each - we ate peanut butter cookies w/jelly filling just before starting the hike and banana muffins were consumed when reached Blair Pass on the return leg.
We consumed a lot of water on this hike, but did not have to use our reserve.
There was a lot of hiking/running traffic on the trail; thought we were on a Phoenix, Arizona freeway at rush hour. We did not see any large animals, but at about 6400-feet elevation we did see what looked like a Common Lesser Earless Lizard (We're not experts on lizards).
We will make this hike one of our regular events. |
