| no partners | | This is a P2k peak, i.e. a peak with 2,000' or more of prominence, so I decided to hike up to this one. This was the first of four P2K peaks that I bagged in 3 days in Kingman.
I was a little worried about not being able to find the TH, but my fears were unwarranted as it was easy to find. In fact, google maps has the correct route.
On the way in we passed by the Grapevine Mesa Joshua Tree Forest, which is most amazing joshus tree forest that I have ever seen. In fact, I think that it is the best existing display of joshua trees in the US.
There is no trail whatsoever on this hike, so good route finding skills come in handy. It was a brushy hike, but not as bad as what I expected. I think that it safe to say that not many people do this hike -- we certainly did not see anyone else.
I enjoyed the views at the summit, especially to the NE toward the Grand Canyon.
I located the benchmark and some height-of-light remnants; however, I did see any reference marks.
I enjoyed this hike, and if it was closer I'd do it again...but it is a long way to go for a 6 mile hike. |
