| no partners | | I decided to do another Mount Ord hike today. This time I mixed it up a bit by also hiking Little Mount Ord.
I have previously hiked Little Mount Ord, but this was the first time that I have done both Ords on the same hike.
I went the standard way up to Mount Ord from the Slate Creek TH. On the way back, once I got to the locked gate, I went off-trail down to FR 1688 on a route that @CannondaleKid told me about. Once on FR 1688 I went as close to Little Mount Ord as I could get, and then went off-trail up to the summit. The south and east side of Little Mount Ord got burned in the Bush Fire (or were burned as part of a back-burn operation) so the off-trail ascent was easy with the vegetation gone.
The descent from FR 626 down to FR 1688 wasn't too bad -- it was a little steep but I took it somewhat slow and had no issues. The lower part of the descent was in an area that looked like was back-burned in fighting the Bush Fire, and with the vegetation gone there was really no bushwhacking. I saw a couple of deer on the way down, and they were not camera shy.
Once I got back on FR 1688 I went to FR 626, and then went to FR 27, and then went back to the TH.
I enjoyed hiking on FR 1688 -- some sections were under pine trees and there was greenery lining the road, the way that FR 27 was before the Bush Fire.
I don't plan to make a habit of doing this hike whenever I hike Mount Ord, but it is a nice change of pace every now and then. |

Wildflowers Observation None Sadly, I doubt if there will be any wildflowers along FR 27 this year. |
