Started early in the morning and got to Bear Canyon Creek and it was running waist deep. We crossed the creek OK but I realized we would never be able to get across the 7 to 9 crossings on the way to seven Falls. The creek is narrower in the canyon and therefor the water deeper and faster. A change of plan on the fly was required. Instead of turning right to Bear Canyon we would turn left to Sabino Canyon and check that out. I figured the water would be flowing over the seven or so Sabin Canyon bridges but at least we would be able to walk across. We got to the first bridge and realized we wouldn't be able to walk across the first bridge safely (Sabino has at least 3 times the water of Bear Creek). Change of plan again, we decided to head up to Sabino Dam and follow along the east side of the creek as far as we could go. Beautiful 4 mile hike on a warm muggy morning. The desert was really green as it often is during the monsoons but the creeks were running higher than I've ever seen. They run higher than this during heavy rains but I have never taken the time to check them out.
There were no cars at the trail head and we were probably the only ones west of Bear and east of Sabino. We will have to try for seven falls some time next week.
