| no partners | | I was on the way back to Phoenix from hiking a couple of days in the Las Vegas area, and we decided to stop and check out the drive to the Mohon Peak TH. Mohon Peak is on my to-do list, and since we had never been to the area we figured that it was worth the drive out there.
We followed the excellent driving directions that @chumley has provided, and we went as far as my buddy's CRV would take us, which was about 3.5 miles from the TH.
Most of the drive was on one of the most well-graded dirt roads that I have driven on. Along the way you'll pass a kiosk where you sign in by giving your name, vehicle license number, and State Land Trust permit number. Access to the roads seems quite good these days.
This is definitely a remote area that is cut off from the rest of Arizona due to some sprawling private land holdings. Then there is the black helicopter thing: I have read about strange lights, unusual noises, paramilitary swat teams, etc in the area. I am skeptical that these claims are true, but who knows.
I like the looks of the area, and it doesn't look like most of Arizona, and it wasn't anything like what I expected.
I plan to go back out there and hike up to Mohon Peak and explore the area a bit. Due to hot weather soon to be upon us, I may have to wait until fall to get out there though.
