This was the second of 2 days of hiking in Las Vegas. Potosi Mountain had some peakbagging interest for me, so it was the objective for the day. On the way back to the TH we also hiked up to Potosi Mountain South, which is some 300 feet lower than Potosi Mountain. Potosi South has just over 300 feet of prominence, so it barely qualifies as a "legitimate" peak.

The first 1.75 miles were pretty steep, but the road was paved for most of that stretch, so footing and traction was good. The road was less steep than Thompson Peak Rd, and I was feeling good that morning so I didn't think that it was too bad. From that point on the gradient was much more forgiving, and the views were really nice so I enjoyed the hike.

We passed by the turnoff to Potosi Mountain South, and made our way to the summit. The summit had some great views, but it was windy so we didn't stay too long at the summit. I wasn't wild about the antennae anyway.

On the way back we stopped for a few minutes to look at the route to the plane crash site, and then we went up to Potosi South. It was a short climb to get there, and I enjoyed the views there also. The road for the descent from Potosi South was a bit slippery, so we took our time. Things went faster once we got back to the main road. Even though the entire hike was road walking, the views were super and I did not mind being on the road.

I enjoyed the hike, and if I lived in the area I imagine that I would hike this one occasionally to get a good workout.

We only encountered one other hiker on the hike, and that was on Potosi Mountain South. He was up there looking for some sort of Vision Quest route that was once used by native Americans; he also gave us a bit of info on where the plane crash site was.
