Be forewarned, at least as of this posting the trail isn't in good shape. In several spots, big palo verde and mesquite limbs are down over the trail, and lots of thorny bushes that have completely grown across the trail in numerous locations. In some of these spots, because of the steepness of the terrain, trying to go around these obstructions off the trail isn't easy. Also some erosion, which made the trail a bit confusing in some spots. In one spot it took me so long to figure out where the real trail was that it just took away a lot of the fun of the trip. Route finding now I would say isn't a 1, it's more like a 2.5.
Saw an interesting thing on the trail though...a first! Two diamondbacks mating. Check out the photoset. They were amazingly calm as I walked up on them. I stayed around them for a good 15-20 minutes, trying to take pictures with my crappy camera, and they didn't even rattle or get too upset (though they were pretty preoccupied!!)
Didn't make it all the way to the end, but took some excursions (some planned, some unplanned!) along the way. |
