| no partners | | This trail never disappoints for fall colors. Took me longer to run than last year as I’ve had an injury that has been nagging me for a couple of months. I almost turned around until I got out of the shade. It was 26 degrees at the start and I wasn’t sure I’d warm up enough to do the hike. Once I got moving the feet were better. The trail is worse and gets more difficult to run every year as the horse traffic seems to cause more damage than any other form of trail enjoyment. Water levels were much higher than previous years. Miles 5-8 have 6 steam crossings that are unavoidable if you want to run. They can be bypassed by use trails, but these have become overgrown thorny and seem to be returning to the wild. Did not see a single vehicle when I got there. A couple horse trailers and vehicles when I left. Everyone seems to be doing the loop clockwise which works well if your the first person there for solitude. I did not go up dome rock, but hope to do this as a family hike next year and take the kids to the top as they are both capable of 12 mile hikes now. |
