My first reaction when I was invited to do Isis again was heck no. I loved it when I did it 7 years ago but it was a lot of effort. After thinking about it for a few weeks, I decided I didn't want to miss out. That and the leisurely two day exit had me sold. Drove up Thurs eve and camped outside Tusayan.

Fri: SK to Hippie camp. Left at about 5:15 am in the dark. 7 years ago this was a long hard slog. This time it wasn't so bad. Got to hippie camp before 2pm and had plenty of time to setup camp, relax and read.

Sat: got going at 6:30. The redwall was a bit spicier than I remembered, but we all scrambled it - no one got a belay. It was a long traverse over to the Supai - a lot longer than I remembered. We all roped up for the crux climb. Didn't seem so bad this time, but I wouldn't have wanted to lead it. We all scramlbed the rest of the pitches - no need for belays so it went pretty quickly. Got to the summit at 10:45 and we spent a good hour on top. Replaced the register as it was struck by lightning. The way down took us longer than the way up surprisingly. Did multiple raps on the way down. Got back to camp at 4. Near dark we had a couple guys wander into camp. turns out they were in the middle of a thru hike. They came and ate dinner with us and we exchanged stories. We also heard all about the couple of swims they had to do in Phantom creek. They approached via the creek instead of the Utah flats route. We were planning on going out Phantom to north Kaibab the next day and staying at Bright Angel campground so we were very interested in the conditions. I had brought by 2mm shorty since the last time I did PHantom, I froze....

Sunday: Hiked down phantom to waterfall camp. From there we hit the water right away. I did 4 swims I think. The others had a couple less as they did some climbing to bypass a few swims. All in all I was glad to have my shorty.

Monday - out via SK. On the way out we did the "4th class" route up O'Neill. I had done the 5.9 route up the east face a few years back so I was excited to try the easy route. Turns out it isn't that easy. I don't think I could have led it, especailly the weird move on the second pitch. after a nice break on top we knocked out hte rest of the hike and headed home.

Very glad I did Isis again. I was also glad to say it felt easier this time. Both the hiking and the climbing.
