| no partners | | After repeating Prominent Pt West a few weeks ago, i had the itch to finally do the higher east peak. We went back and forth on the route to take - either the Finger Rock/finger guard route or the direct route up Finger Rock canyon. Decided on the canyon route. Finger rock canyon was pretty nice. It was clear of brush and had a few nice scrambles. We then took the side canyon that went below the finger. This side canyon was fun - multiple sporty climbs and still pretty clear. It was all fun until we got high enough to where we had to leave the gully. The remaining 1000 vert feet was pretty awful. The slopes were covered with velcro plants an other spiky veg. The last scramble up Prominent was fun - a cl 4 chimney. We took a short break on top - it was cloudy and windy. On the way down we debated on the climber's route out to the trail or the gulley. We started down the slope and stayed in the west gully - looked like it might go. After a 30 min or so we were cliffed out. Looked like we might be able to go about a half mile south to get around the cliffs, but we decided to backtrack and get back into the side canyon. The canyon was pretty easy going, but I was tired of the velcro in my pants. the spines got stuck in my pants and ended up rubbing my knees raw. Ugh...... finally got back to the car. Definitely a DNR. |
