Once at the beach, geared up for the float to Clear Creek. Portaged 83 mile rapid - one in our group accidentally ran it and flipped. He was able to save all his gear and get to shore without issue. Made it to Clear Creek at about 4pm. Hiked over to Clear creek proper to check it out and also to check out the riffles. I was pretty nervous about the next day. in 2018 I had done Lonetree and planned to camp at Clear Creek, missed the takeout and was terrrified by the riffle in my Klymit. This time I had a Alpacka Scout and more experience but I was pretty nervous - especially since the riffle looked pretty burly. There might be a possibilty to portage but it would be a long arduous slog and it would put you in pretty close to Zoroaster Rapid.
Sunday am came too early. Geared up and hit the water. the first riffle was no big deal, but the second one felt pretty big. It was really fun though and didn't feel in danger of flipping. The waves were so big. Portaged 85 mile, Zoroaster and Cremation and made the rest of the float to Phantom. De-geared and slogged up the SK with wet gear.
Fun trip. |
