| no partners | | Had planned to take the Finger Rock to it's end at Ventana, but sleeping in an extra hour this morning seemed more important at the time, so I just did Kimball.
Hit the trail at 0830 with a temp of about 60. With cloud cover and the wind building it only got cooler until the summit and strangely never got any warmer than about 60 by the end of the hike. I thought I would have the trail pretty much to myself being Christmas, but this is without a doubt the busiest I've ever seen Finger Rock. I passed 4 to 5 times by Linda Vista, thinking that would be it, but I passed twice again by the top and arrived at the same time with another party. Took a very brief break at the peak for pics as the wind was howling there, then shot back down to where things were a little more pleasant. The trip back was an absolute zoo, taking just about as long as the ascent. There were people every few minutes, and none seemed to have an ounce of common sense when it came to passing. There was even one little family having a food break in the middle of the trail. Note to self: Christmas day is not a good day to hike.
Oh well, all things considered, it was time better spent than sitting at home, knitting with the cat. |
