Headed to Sedona for some hunting of Cliff dwellings in a canyon I hadn’t explored off trail (other than the arch) before. Kara and I carpooled and met Ashley at the trailhead. We didn’t meet until around 9:30am but didn’t have trouble finding parking.

The hike to the end of the trail is super easy and flat, and it wasn’t overly crowded so that was a bonus! We started our off trail adventure at the end of the canyon by continuing to the right. Each of us had some form of reference to a dwelling in there, so we were hopeful to find a few!

This easy canyon definitely gets different when you’re off the trail. We had some route finding challenges getting up to the correct level for the first set of dwellings. Bushwhacking, climbing/scrambling, navigating teamwork and passing backpacks all just add to the fun!

We got up to this ledge and there was a really cool rock formation you could squeeze through and some excellent views up there too. We spotted about 3 different dwellings on the other side! Our excitement almost had us miss the original one we were looking for, but Ashley found it around the corner. The dwellings weren’t as nice as some others I’ve seen in Sedona, but the views were amazing.

We heard some voices and saw some people across the way checking out a dwelling. I was almost expecting an Arizona Jones run in, but it ended up being some of our friends/Instagram acquaintances. We chatted for a while and introduced each other before continuing on.
The whole group somehow ended up at the next ruin and we took a break chatting for a bit.

We wanted to continue hunting for some of the others in there and set out to climb up a few levels. During the aggressive climbing, the rocky/unstable terrain became pretty uncomfortable on my ankle, so I needed to take a break. (Don’t worry, I’m currently in treatment for this annoying recurring injury.) My doctor had told me that I should turn around when hikes become too painful, so I sadly had to pass on any additional hunting. Kara and I turned back while the rest of the group continued on. They apparently only ended up visiting one additional dwelling that we’d seen from the other side, so we didn’t miss out on much. It was still a quite lovely day in Sedona and we have more pins of dwellings to check out in the future!
