We were able to drive a good portion of the way to go see this big rock. The “road” was sandy & narrow, and added lots of new pinstripes to the collection. We got to a gate and decided we’d walk from there, as it was only 1.5ish miles of driving left.
We hiked through a sandy wash, which was annoying, but the distance wasn’t far, so we pressed on. We hiked until we were around the base of shiprock where we had a good view of it.
Definitely such a cool rock formation! The way we approached, it didn’t look like you could climb it, but I later learned that the backside has a better approach. The area around shiprock was really cool and unique too. We saw one group camping in the distance, but other than that, nobody was out there! Such interesting and rugged terrain out here that I’d love to explore more! |
