There was snow in the forecast for Sedona, so a girls day was in order! The forecast was holding strong for snow, until early early that morning, it had adjusted a bit. Typical Arizona

We met at Long Canyon TH at 7:30am and started our hike. There were a few other vehicles already there, but it seemed they were all headed for the Birthing Cave since we saw no one throughout our hike! We had mapped out a few options of certain ruins and decided to just proceed according to the weather. We were properly layered for the cold.

We headed off trail at our pin and headed up to see the Three Sisters aka Ice Cream Cone ruins. I had been before about 3 years ago and back then there was no trail and you had to climb straight up a cliff face. Oh how things have changed as now there is somewhat of a path through the trees that avoids the sketchy vertical climb. It wasn’t snowing, but there was some icy rain/sleet as we gained elevation. Despite there being some sort of a path, it was still pretty sketchy climbing up as you’re grabbing onto icy tree limbs and slick rocks. We took our time and chose footing carefully and made it to the top without any issues.

My friend hadn’t ever seen the dwellings so I was excited for her to see them and we also took a snack break there. It was about 20 degrees colder up there, so all extra layers were on. There was a lot of fog so the ruins were a bit challenging to capture. After we had our fill, we returned the same way we came and the icy rain continued throughout our descent.

Once back on the main trail, we were feeling a bit over the slushy rain (it feels a lot different than fluffy snow!) so we decided to not visit any additional ruins in that canyon. It wasn’t exactly the day we had planned, but still had a great time hiking in Sedona!
