| no partners | | I did this hike to hit a couple of California county highpoints:
1) Mount Pinos (elevation of 8,831' with 4,800' of prominence): Ventura County HP
2) Sawmill Mountain (elevation of 8,818' with 4ith 418' of prominence): Kern County HP
The TH is in Kern County, and you cross over into Ventura County on the way to Mount Pinos; then you go back to Kern County before getting to Sawmill Mountain.
Pinos was an enjoyable, easy hike. The trail to Sawmill was a bit steep and rocky in a place or 2, but it was still a class 1 hike all the way.
The hike goes to Pinos first, and then continues onto Sawmill. It is an out-and-back hike, so you hike up to Pinos for the second time on the way back.
There were nice views at both summits and at a couple of overlooks, so that was enjoyable.
The only negative was the Hell's Angels motorcycle riders who decided to ignore the wilderness rules and ride their motorcycles on the trail -- they passed by me on my way back to Pinos from Sawmill. At least I did not see any illegal campfires. |
