| no partners | | Methods-- mine is to study a map, then go to the area, and work on access to points of interest. I like old maps, BLM and other TOPO's, due to some of the newer mapping programs have removed points of interest that either have no public access or have some sort of sensitivity to them. I also specialize somewhat in tres passing but that's another story.
This time a turn in the road; a barren spur recently chained by the rancher ( last several years anyway). Then the old cemetery which research revealed probably had over 70+ burials, ranching, mining etc in the area. A recent family burial in the 2000's. The earliest marked 1903. Many rockpiles lost in the weeds. The area had a great deal of pottery shards, some of the older burials had some mixed in the rock covering the graves.
On down the road. A successful bypass to a locked gate secured for another time. A few sorties off a couple of roads into some interesting geologic areas near some old mining interests. The road bed appeared to be in compressed ash, with white crumbly cliffs and amazing road erosion found.
The coming heat will limit me but I prefer this over hiking a trail just to hike that I have been on several times. To each his own, I will be driven out of the deserts soon enough for a little while; or until the rains come. |
