| partners | | My son wanted to see some waterfalls today, so I found three in fairly close proximity to each other. First stop was Snow Creek Falls near Bonners Ferry. Easy, scenic drive up to the trailhead, where there was one other vehicle parked.
Got started down the trail, which had a gentle decline, and was mostly shaded. An unleashed, but friendly, dog joined us for part of the walk down, then ran off ahead of us. At the junction between the lower & upper falls, we opted for the lower falls first. The creek noise became a roar as we approached the falls and there was a heavy mist soaking everything. An older couple was at the lower falls viewpoint, and started yelling at me about the dog, thinking it was mine. I shrugged and said “Not my dog, not my problem. He’s probably from one of the nearby houses.” The couple stomped off in a huff.
All the current snowmelt had the falls flowing at probably around peak flow, so that was cool to see. I kept a firm grip on Wyatt in the slippery areas around the viewpoints—one misstep and a fall into the creek would be fatal. We headed up to the upper falls, which was equally impressive, then back up the trail. Nice little trail, and I’d stop by it again if in the area. |
